A Tradition of Innovation

For nearly 200 years, BankProv has been a trusted partner for the people and businesses of New England.

“We’ve been successful for the last 196 years thanks to a combination of hard work, customer loyalty, and luck,” says Joe Reilly, President and CEO of BankProv. “We work very hard to protect our banking relationships, and we provide our customers with a high level of service that is not easy to find. There are plenty of banks that try to win customers by offering them a shinier penny; we offer our customers a trusted partnership instead.”

Founded in 1828 as the Provident Institution for Savings, BankProv has proudly provided financial services to the people and businesses of New England for nearly two centuries. Headquartered in Amesbury, BankProv is a full-service commercial bank that offers tailored and responsive business lending solutions to small and midsize companies throughout the region.

“Our mission is to serve as trusted advisors to our clients and to assist in their growth and successful business objectives,” Reilly explains. “We have an experienced and enthusiastic staff that understands our market. We’re big enough to accommodate a vast range of financial needs, but we’re small enough to have lots of flexibility.”

In response to industry shifts and emerging needs, BankProv has reinforced its commitment to innovation while staying true to its core values. “Our approach is to blend forward-thinking innovations with the reliable, personalized service that has always been our hallmark,” Reilly explains. “By prioritizing our core strengths, we’ve revitalized our branch system and reallocated resources to better serve our customers. This focus on core principles underscores the strength of our culture and commitment to excellence.”

A Culture of Community Commitment

Strong banking relationships take time to develop. Having served generations of customers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, BankProv understands the significance of these ties and extends its commitment to the broader communities it serves.

“At BankProv, we are deeply committed to enhancing the communities we serve,” says Kathleen Barrett, Vice President of Marketing. “Our team actively participates in community service, engaging in activities such as volunteering with local charities, serving on nonprofit boards, and dedicating time and resources to impactful initiatives. We provide support through both financial contributions and hands-on involvement with organizations across northeastern Massachusetts and several counties in New Hampshire. Our objective is to foster vibrant and thriving communities through a range of meaningful and strategic contributions and connections with the organizations and people who support those missions on a day-to-day basis.”

Last year, BankProv’s charitable foundation invested more than $430,000 into local communities
through various nonprofit entities. For the bank’s leadership, these investments are about more than giving back; they’re about building a better future.

“We’re very cognizant of our long and proud history as the nation’s 10th oldest financial institution,” Reilly concludes. “We’ve helped our customers adapt and thrive through many different economic and social environments. We’re looking forward to the next 200 years.”
